Why Red Bridge horse feed

Milled to order

We mill your feed for your order, so it reaches you 3–4 days after it's made. Most commercial feed is 2–6 months old by the time it's fed.

No corn. No soy. Non-GMO.

Oats, barley, field peas and alfalfa carry the ration. Nothing genetically modified, ever.

No molasses. No added sugar.

Cold-pressed canola oil does the work, so Cavalry Mash carries at least 9% fat for steady energy and condition.

Good questions

Horse feed FAQ

Is Cavalry Mash corn-free and soy-free?
Yes. Cavalry Mash is built on oats, barley, field peas, alfalfa and canola meal, with no corn and no soy. Nothing in the bag is genetically modified.
Does Cavalry Mash have molasses or added sugar?
No. We add no molasses and no sugar. The extra energy comes from cold-pressed canola oil, so the mash carries at least 9% fat. Oats and barley do contain their own natural starch, the same as any grain.
Why use fat instead of sugar for energy?
Pound for pound, fat carries about two and a quarter times the energy of starch or sugar. That means fewer pounds of grain to keep condition, and energy that comes on slow and steady instead of in a rush.
How much Cavalry Mash should I feed?
Most horses do well on 3–5 lb a day per 1,000 lb of body weight, split into two feedings, on top of free-choice hay. Start at 1 lb and work up over a week or two, and adjust to your horse's work and condition.
How do I switch my horse to Cavalry Mash?
Mix it with your current feed over 7–10 days, a little more Cavalry and a little less of the old feed each day. Horse guts need time to adjust to any new feed.
Is it organic?
No. Cavalry Mash is non-GMO, corn-free and soy-free, but not certified organic. That keeps it affordable while leaving out the ingredients most horse owners are trying to avoid.
Why does fresh-milled feed matter?
We mill your feed for your order, so it reaches you 3–4 days after it's made. Most commercial feed is 2–6 months old by the time it's fed, and vitamins and fats break down with time. The mill date is on every tag.
Where can I buy Cavalry Mash?
At independent farm stores across Washington, at our own store in Kettle Falls, WA, and soon in Caldwell, Idaho. See the store finder, or call 509-738-9004 for bulk and delivery.
Do you sell bulk feed for boarding stables and ranches?
Yes. We mill in bags or super sacks for barns feeding a string of horses, and we can build a custom ration from 1,000 lb. Use the form on this page or call 509-738-9004.
